Social Media Infograph
I found this post one day while scrolling through the popular site, Pinterest. At first it didn't really catch my attention. A lot of infographs are filled with a lot of color and more vibrant images. However, before continuing my scrolling I read the title "How are we using social media?". Well - that brought up a few questions for me.
1. Who is this we that they speak of?
2. What social medias are actually being compared?
3. Could this help me with some of my other positions?
So I decided to click on it - and oddly enough was really interested in the information being presented. I am have a few positions at Miami where I am specifically responsible for social media marketing. That means that I'm interested in the trends we see as well as some of the information that may not be accurate. So looking at the post I decided to break it down into sections.
First - the we is ad/marketing professionals versus the "normal" people. This made the infograph more compelling to me because I feel that this looks at potential skews that exist for people who are trying to market (aka me).
Second - a lot of social media sites were being compared and honestly - I was shocked. I did not realize that some of the most prominent platforms for marketing may not actually be as popular as I thought they were.
Third - although this is primarily a company perspective I think I can benefit a lot from it. Looking at the "normal" accounts I realize that there are more prominent media platforms that can be used to market various things.
The one downside, for me at least was the last part of the infograph. Honestly, I don't understand it's purpose and think it makes the overall infograph less effective. While it is useless to me though it is also a good example of what you should and shouldn't do when building an infograph and presenting information to a certain audience.
